So I joined the D&D group in Manchester with Jason, my project lead. Since I’d only heard about it the week before I hadn’t had the chance to completely set up my character (the Basic Rules PDF kind of sucks that way). When I got there fortunately Jason knew I wanted to play a Cleric so he gave me the pre-gen Cleric character. Who was a dwarf.
But it was fine.
I had been working on an Elven Cleric that was a former solider that became disillusioned with everything and went onto a higher calling.
Instead I was playing a dwarven Cleric that was a former solider that became disillusioned with everything and went onto a higher calling.
I could make this work. I ended up naming him Torin Gravelshifter of the Hill Gravelshifters. He has an 18 AC and decent combat and spell casting.
However none of this is even remotely familiar to me. Last I remember there wasn’t all the proficiences and modifiers and such. You rolled a d20 added a potential modifier (depending on the class and action) and had to hit a number. Which is kind of what you do now but you didn’t have specific proficiences for stealth or animal handling and stuff. But I’ll get the hang of it.
Starting next week I’m going to chronicle the adventures I go through as well as just talk about re-learning D&D again. If you have the Starter Set you can follow along in the adventure that came with it.
